Ceramic planters

Planters are the next category we are working toward. This page exists to show where that work stands, honestly.

There is no finished planter collection yet, and we would rather say so than show you a product that does not exist. What we have today is a studio that already casts, trims, and glazes small batch ceramics, and a set of questions we are working through before the first planter is worth showing.

Rows of pale ribbed ceramic ornaments lined up on a shelf.
The bench and the kiln are ready. The planters are not made yet.

What exists today

Skills, not yet shapes

Everything a planter needs, in terms of hands, is already in the studio: plaster moulds made here, slipcast forms, hand trimming, and small batch glaze runs that come out of the kiln different every time.

What does not exist yet is a planter form we have tested, glazed, and lived with. We are not going to photograph a test piece and call it a collection.

What comes first

The questions we have to answer

  • Which shapes, at which sizes, are worth making a mould for.
  • Which glazes survive repeated watering without ugly change.
  • How drainage works in a slipcast form, tested rather than assumed.
  • Whether a planter stays honest to the personality the rest of the work carries.

When there are real pieces on a real bench, they go on this page and the studio notes explain what we learned making them.

What we make today

While the planter work is underway, the studio's finished categories are Alesha's whimsical ceramic pigs and Jesse's handmade glazed Christmas ornaments.

If you want to know when the first planters are real, the studio notes are where that will appear first.
